I need a specific answer. An example, with clear scientific explanation, would be best. “Contact of the dirty ants that carry diseases with food could spread such diseases in humans” would be very general. Thanks a lot to anybody who would be of great help! ; )
We have been to two different vets, the first said that it was a urinary tract infection and we tried THREE different antibiotics which worked for a little while then started making her vomit. The next vet told us to change her diet and buy an extra litter box and water dish and that worked for a while and then stopped. She makes frequent trips to the litter box and is only successful some of the time. We did find out the last time that she has crystals in her urine. I am wondering if she may have a rare disease because she is unresponsive to treatment. Have any of you gone through something similar? I hate to see her suffer!

Today I read the Yahoo News article, “Enduring a rare disease with no cure”, regarding the rare incurable brain disorder “Batten” disease, that restricts the brain from creating a necessary enzyme that rids the brain of waste. Dead cells then back up and destroy the brain, eventually leading to a vegetable state and death.

Pharmacuetical companies are not interested in funding medical studies on rare diseases, mainly interested in more common, ‘financially productive and plentiful’ diseases, more lucratively compatable to their money making criterea. I am angered that the government doesn’t employ a “forced charter criterea” which allows companies to make their BILLIONS” but also requires a certain percentage of funding in lieu of tax breaks, in order to battle less financially gainful diseases. Not being able to afford to keep healthy is one thing, being too CHEAP to, is another.
Our son had a very rare disease and we were told that he would not see his first birthday… he was 7 and the love of our lives along with our (now)4 year old son. This was about 8 months ago and we are handling things completely different. I go to church, work many hours and spend time playing soccer, tennis, etc. with our other son. My husband comes home from work, watches TV and drinks beer. I am not saying that I am perfect, I have slacked off terribly with housework- wich annoys my husband because I use to be so OCD, but I don’t see that as one of the most important things in my life anymore… (our house is always clean, just not PERFECT) I have tried to get him to go to therapy, but he will not… he is just very unhappy and angry all the time with me. I understand that he is suffering, as am I, but I don’t know how to “reconnect”… any suggestions? (serious only PLEASE)
My brother has this rare disease. I am looking to talk (email) anyone that either has this disease or knows someone who does.
Don’t you always see those stories in the news about teenagers who started some charity organization to help, for instance, kids who have some rare disease? How do TEENAGERS do that? I’m a teenager and interested in charity, but I’m really shy and not a leader in any way, so how would I start a program like that?
