Only 1 in 1000 adults is afflicted with a rare disease for which a diagnostic test has been developed. The test is such that, when an individual actually has a disease, a positive result will
occur 99% of the time, while an individual without the disease will show a positive test result only 2% of the time. If a randomly selected individual is tested and the result is positive, what is
the probability that the individual has the disease?
cool thanks

How to?

rare disease
wildncrazysurvivor

Ok first of all read thorougly before replying. Second of all I have this extremely rare disease that causes extremely low estrogen or where your body can’t produce estrogen in your body. I have to take meds that regulate my hormones. I’m 22 now. I am mentally a teenager I think because I always feel lazy and not wanting to do anything.

How do I get over this immaturity. I always seem to find something to bother me and not want to do college school work or work at all and just lay around doing nothing. I am sick of it. How do I mature?? my counselor wouldn’t even help me on this. Maybe find a new one?? I also feel guilty for feeling like what a teen feels. I even look like a teen. Thing is I’m not interested in sex like teens are. I just don’t feel like doing anything. I had puberty induced when I was 18. Been depressed since. Suggestions? Before I reached puberty I did a lot more.

My 19 month old’s urine smells strange. Could there be something wrong? what about maple syrup disease?

rare disease
CandyLandCondoResident

My 19 month old’s urine smells funny recently. I just took him to the doctor for a check up. He has always had a weight issue (7th %ile) and has been a picky eater. (he also has a major speech delay) She told me that I need to get him to drink more milk and eat less fruits and more protien/higher fat foods. He had been having some diareha the last week, and she associated this with too much sugar. He loves fruit, and since he’s so fussy, I’ve stuck with mostly fruits, veggies, and crackers. So, I’ve increased the milk intake, given him yogurt each day and more meat the last three days. Now his pee is starting to smell strange. . .sort of sweet. He’s still peeing just as much, and still drinking water with the milk, so he doesn’t seem to be dehydrated (especially since he stopped with the diareha).

I read about maple syrup disease somewhere. Do you think he could have this at 19 months? How rare is this disease? Could he have something else wrong? How could they test?
I have always nursed him as well- no formula or milk.

The Hidden Secret

Is there a treatment (herbal or medical) for Monomelic Amyotrophy? A disorder of the motor nerves in the hands

rare disease
- Nick L -

Info on Monomelic Amyotrophy: an untreatable, focal, lower motor neuron disease that primarily affects young (15 – 25 year-old) males. MMA is marked by insidious onset of muscular atrophy, which stabilizes at a plateau after two to five years from which it neither improves nor worsens. So basically, my hands have very little muscle or strength and no prospect of them ever being normal (useable) again. I’ve been to neurologists and they don’t know enough about it because it is so rare. So, if anyone has any information on this, I would GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks.

What is the name of the disease transmitted through birds?

human disease
Anna Mae

I believe they get it from contaminated water. The bird drinks the water and can spread the disease to other birds. I think that humans can possibly get it too.
