fifth disease is a fifth generation measles……you wont get it again…..there really isnt anything you can do for it…it just has to run its course….the most ppl usually get is a red rash in the hottest points on the body ( armpits, groin, neck, joints) take benadryll for itching and wear loose clothing…..typically a person can have it up to 2 weeks before the symptoms appear so you could have been infected 2 weeks before you showed any signs….my daughter got it from preschool….there is no way to tell that someone has it until the rash shows up…and there are no lingering side effects……

fifths disease or as some call it slapped cheeks disease is much like the common cold it has to run its course. It is more prevalent in children and strikes most of the population before the age of 5. It presents with cold like symptoms followed by a fever and rash that can make the cheeks of children seem bright red like their face was slapped. Most people don’t even realize they have had it it is often so mild. It is known as fifths disease because it was once included in the list of childhood diseases like mumps, measles, and fifths disease. It can be harmful to pregnant women the baby can get hydrocephalus and die. (sorry sad but true) you are probably over it by now it has no harbouring effects.

I got that when I was in the 3rd grade and they told me two years ago I had it again. However I did not have any of the symptoms. So, did I really have it or is the antibody showing up? I remember in the 3rd grade I felt pretty bad when I had it. I remember the red rash etc…but I do not believe I ever had any side effects from this.
