How does a high schooler start a service project?

rare disease

Don’t you always see those stories in the news about teenagers who started some charity organization to help, for instance, kids who have some rare disease? How do TEENAGERS do that? I’m a teenager and interested in charity, but I’m really shy and not a leader in any way, so how would I start a program like that?

Another idea, is with the Local Senior Center. Many Senior Citizens have no one to help them do meanial things like rake up leaves and tidy up around the outside of the house. That would be a good service project for you and the Community.

i recommend read paul rogat loeb’s soul of the citzen.

but the first thing is talk to others around you and figure out what you guys have interest in, do research on the web about it, talk to organizations around you like kwanis, or key club.

    goodluck!

since you are shy and not a leader in any way, it might be kind of hard to start a program like that.

perhaps you should get started iwth volunteering or interning for existing ones so you can see how they work…

    check that out for inspiration.

you can do it, get confident! socialize! work with people to make this happen.

It might be best for you to start by doing volunteer work for an organization in which you’re interested. It’s very likely that someone has already done the legwork and would love to have your help on their projects. The previous post for dosomething.org is a good place to start your search or you could contact medical charities directly. Many of them have fund raising projects such as walks and need volunteers.

It’s great that you want to help other people! Good luck in your search.

The Key Club has this just like this. You can see about joining the Key Club. If one is not in your school, this would be a great thing to start. The Key Club is sponsored by the Kiwanis. Our club sponsors Key Club at 2 sh cools!
